In Memory of my Grandmother

My story is about a person very close to me. Some years ago, my mum told me a story that is still hard for me to believe. A long time ago, she woke up early in the morning and saw her mother standing next to the door of her bedroom, looking at her and inviting her to have breakfast. Mum, who was still asleep, said yes without realizing at the time something didn’t add up… It turns out that my grandmother wasn’t home that day. At that moment, she remembered that she was visiting my aunt’s house for a few days since they had not seen each other for a long time.

Time later, she also told me that, after some days and weeks, my grandmother fell ill and then passed away.

In the end, my grandmother invited my mum to have breakfast that day as her way of saying goodbye so that she would remember her in the best way. They were always very close friends: they had breakfast together, told stories, laughed or cried together. As the years passed, remembering this moment, my older brother told me that my grandmother had also said goodbye to him. But because I was little back then, he didn’t want to scare me.

My brother told me that before my grandmother fell ill badly, he also dreamed of her, but in such a beautiful dream where my grandmother played with him, just as she did when he was a child. That day, he woke up so happy to see her well, as if something bad had never happened to her. Besides my mother, he also kept a beautiful memory of my grandmother. After all this time, we all miss her.
