All the streets and the doors of the houses were decorated with skulls, ghosts and scary objects. Just another Halloween evening…
Jack and Stuart were getting dressed for a costume party, “The Competition of the Year”, as they called it. It was a competition where they had to wear the most original costume and collect all the candies they could gather from their neighbour’s doors. If they had the best costume and collected more candies they would win. All the children loved it and were excited about this time of year.
Sophie, Jack’s cousin, had a witch costume and her friend too, they walked all day and only got six lollipops and twelve candies. Paul and Peter, Stuart’s best friends, found four chocolates and eleven candies. Mathieu, who was dressed as a zombie, found seven lollipops and three chocolate coins.
They arrived at the party and everyone showed their creepy costumes and Jack’s mom started counting the children’s candies.
Jack was twelve sweets, Mathieu ten, Sophie and her friend eighteen, Paul and Peter fifteen, Stuart eight and a very strange boy that no one knew, dressed as “It”, had brought 34 candies. Everyone was shocked, nobody knew him and he had collected so many sweets that he won. He also had the best costume of all!
I want to take a picture of everyone surrounding the winner!’ said Jack’s mom turning the camera on her phone.
Everyone grabbed their candies and stood still smiling behind their masks with the strange boy in the middle. After a few shots from the camera, all the children run to Jack’s mom and gathered around the phone to see the picture.
The strange boy was not in the photo and had already disappeared just like all the sweets.
